Nashville Aquatic Club Wins 39th Southeastern Swimming Championship Title
Marks Club’s 18th Short Course Championship
Grainger Earns U.S. Olympic Trials Standard
Added  March 7, 2012 @  10:52 pm

Nearly 100 Nashville Aquatic Club (NAC) athletes recently traveled to Knoxville, Tenn., for the 2012 Southeastern Swimming (SES) Short Course Championships.  The meet, hosted on the campus of the University of Tennessee, brought together the fastest athletes from across the southeast for a three and a half day championship. NAC athletes performed exceptionally well, and brought home the team’s 18th SES Short Course team title, which combined with its long course championship titles, makes it NAC’s 39th SES Championship win.

Breakout swims from NAC included several 12 & Under athletes, as Millie Oldham, 10, and Erik Hoogerland, 10, finaled in all seven of their 10 & Under events.  In the 11-12 age group, Austin Morris, 12, took home two titles in the 11-12 age group, the 50 and 100 breaststroke, and Julia-Jane Eskew, 12, and Ford Ray, 12, both finaled in all of their events swum.

WEB POLL
BWSC and TNFC Merge to Form Tennessee Soccer Club
Added  May 8, 2012 @  9:46 a.m.

Late last night, after the votes were tallied, members of Brentwood Soccer Club and Tennessee Futbol Club were notified of the passing of the club merger supported by a vast majority vote.

"As coaches, we are humbled by the overwhelming support within both clubs to move forward with the merger," commented Directors of the club, Hans Hobson and Tommy Cochran. "We're excited about our future and making this the home of one of the top clubs for player development in the Southeast Region."

Joining the ranks as one of the top clubs in the region will open the door to many more opportunities for the young players of the new Tennessee Soccer Club.  Greater college exposure is one such opportunity.  The merger of BWSC and TNFC  not only caught the attention of its existing members, but it also drew the interest of local college coaches.  Head Coach of Men's Soccer at Belmont University, Earle M. Davidson, shared his thoughts about the merger prior to the member vote on May 7th.

"I am very excited about the potential merger of Brentwood Soccer Club and Tennessee Futbol Club. I see it as nothing but positive for Middle Tennessee soccer. As you know the combining of clubs creates a larger pool of players to draw from. With a large pool of players you have better competition within teams and a better environment with which players to grow.

Creating a better level of 'in house' competition fosters an increased opportunity for success at state, regional & national levels, as well as supplies a quality platform for high-level development of local student athletes.

As an NCAA Division I college coach I believe it is an important step for area soccer.  We have had many local players (both BWSC and TNFC, amongst others) come through our program and have done well on and off of the field. Selfishly, the merger creates a better recruiting environment for college coaches. We want to see the best talent practicing and playing together. It better prepares them to play and compete at higher levels."

Along with greater college exposure, the merger also significantly increases the clubs chance at being accepted into the Elite Clubs National League, also known as the ECNL.   The ECNL was formed in 2009 to form a league that would consist of only the top clubs in the nation in order to create the highest level of competition for youth soccer in the United States.  In the 2011-2012 soccer season, the ECNL consisted of the nation's 66 elite female soccer clubs.  A trend of merging clubs has spread throughout the country in order to create "super clubs," or elite clubs worthy of being accepted into the highly respected and sought after ECNL.  Competing within the ECNL not only increases college exposure for the players, but also exposure on a regional and national level.

The recent merger between BWSC and TNFC now puts Tennessee Soccer Club on the radar as one of the top clubs in the Southeast Region, and many hope the merger has also caught the eye of the ECNL.

Over the next couple of weeks, players will play their final games as Brentwood Soccer Club and Tennessee Futbol Club.  This coming weekend will be the final spring tournament for many players as they compete in the AWI at Crockett Park.  The AWI is the Adidas Women's' Invitational that is hosted annually by Brentwood Soccer Club.  Teams from ages U9 to U19, including several TNFC teams participate in the tournament.  The Brentwood Boys' Cup will also be held for boys from U8 to U12.

As players prepare to end their spring season, they will also be preparing for tryouts that will take place within the next few weeks for their new home club, Tennessee Soccer Club.
